Measurement Mania

We are learning to read different scales using mg, g, kg, and tonnes. We have been predicting, measuring, and comparing different objects around the room! Last week we split into our 5 different groups and baked one batch of chocolate drip biscuits each. We had to work together to measure the ingredients using our scale. You have to make sure you are following the recipe! Some of the biscuits turned out really yummy :)

Wicked Wednesday Workouts!

It has been raining, raining and raining some more lately. We have been taking advantage of the rainy weather and having Wednesday workouts in the hall! Our class is split into five different groups and we rotated around an exciting interval circuit! The step-ladder, bench jumps, and circle sit-ups were just a few of the challenges! Check out some photos of us having fun training!

WHALES, WHALES, WHALES!

This term our topic is Sea Life and Room 9 is researching different types of whales! We decided we would become experts on the Blue Whale and began to research using the internet, books, and information I gave them. This is what we found out!!

* “The heart of a blue whale is as BIG as a mini car!!” Tyreece

* “Some of the blood vessels are so wide you can SWIM down them!” Liem

* “Its tongue weighs as much as an elephant! “ Emma

* “Its tail is as wide as a small airplane!” Mac

* “The Blue whale can be up to 32 Metres long!” Fergus

We went outside to measure how long 32m was! This is our entire class laying down together to make 32 meters!

WOODEND CAMP!!

Last week the Year 6's went on school camp with Miss Dobbin and Miss Sloan. We did all sorts of fun things! We jumped the trampolines, went to the beach, did archery, orienteering, rock-climbing, soared through the trees on a massive flying fox, had a lollie scramble and played kick the can (just to name a few)! We were away for three nights and we were on the waterslide whenever we had free time. The food was so yummy and delicious! Here are a few of the photos from camp! Check out our video for more!!

Author Study - Anthony Browne

In reading, we have been doing an author study on Anthony Browne. He writes all kinds of different stories and even illustrates his own pictures! After reading and comparing 'The Shape Game' with other stories, we decided to give it a go! It turns out Anthony Browne's mother (the creator) was onto something great! See!

Back at Hampstead School!

Haere Mai, Welcome to Room 9. We kicked off the school year with a day one group challenge. We discussed the different traits of 'great leaders' and spoke about Ritchie McCaw and how he treats his teammates and coaches. Some of the characteristics that were named included, "loyal, hard-working, dependable, inspirational, kind, encouraging, honest, and responsible". Each group agreed that they would try their hardest to become great leaders this year and signed our Class Treaty/Contract.

Later that day we had relay races outside and then each group was assigned to create a marshmallow tower using only toothpicks. The groups earned points for working together as a team, showing encouragement and support to the other members, and creating the tallest       standing tower they could in ten minutes.

Afterwards we discussed the positive and negative things we noticed during the challenge and what we would change next time. It was character building and a lot of fun!
